    Book details

Two things bring Burke from New York to Indiana: a frantic call from an old cell mate named Virgil and a serial sniper whose twisted passion is to pick off couples on lovers' lane. Virgil's nephew is the innocent prime suspect, and Burke vows to find the real killer by any means necessary. And then comes Blossom. Slim, gorgeous, brilliant. She's got a heated interest in the murders . . . and in Burke.

"Gritty, frightening, compelling and ultimately satisfying."- The Cleveland Plain Dealer "Brilliant... Burke is a creature you can't spend enough time with [and] Vachss, sculpting pieces of art out of the scummiest wastes of humanity, must be read."-People "Burke is an unlikely combination of Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood, and Rambo... Vachss's stories burn with righteous rage."- The Washington Post Book World "A contemporary master... Decidedly hard-boiled, his prose is lean, tough-edged and brittle."- The Atlanta Journal --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This is one of a series by the author featuring Burke-a man navigating the streets of evil below the radar screen. The subject matter is very tough ,with no punches pulled. The writing style is stripped to the bone. But the characters are riveting, the stories terrific, and the suspense very high.In each book Vachss raises fundamental questions about good and evil, and the moral dilemmas and accommodations that Burke has to handle to "solve" the problem .You may not agree with Burke and his band of outlaws ,but you would not hesitate to use him if you were confronted with the problems he is good at "solving".Get the whole series from amazon.
